Explaining
the Suspension Myth:
We are
certain that you, the avid motorcyclist, are aware of the
debate between "independent and rigid"
suspension systems for Trike kits. When driving your automobile
you probably have experienced a centrifugal force as you corner
through a turn at high speeds. As you remember you felt as
though you were being pushed slightly in the opposite side
from the direction that you were turning.
Since
a trike is no longer leaning into the turn as you might have
encountered riding a solo motorcycle, you will now experience
these same forces. As the centrifugal forces increase through
the turn, the center of gravity shifts from being somewhere
in the center of the motorcycle, to the opposite direction
of the turn. This will happen if the vehicle suspension or
swing arm is not designed to keep the vehicle from leaning
in that direction.
A trike
is not a four wheel vehicle and is not supported by two front
wheels. This being the case, it permits the Trike to pivot
on the front wheels thus increasing the lean and forcing the
inside wheel of the trike to lift more easily. Someone with
an independent suspension, or a trike that does not
have the Champion "Zero Flex" swing
arm and suspension system, will most likely be forced to slow
down to make a safe turn at posted speeds.
Many of
our customers who have previously owned independent suspension
trikes have told us that the Champion Trike is the best handling
trike they have ever ridden. It out performs the rest hands
down! (Source: Champion brochure) |
